全球首例！「歪臉」大熊貓被人類牙醫整好了
出生不久就因意外成了「歪臉」的大熊貓「北俠」，在接受了全球首例大熊貓下頜不對稱功能矯形治療后康復。
出手的，是四川大學華西口腔醫院的專家團隊。
Bei Xia, a giant panda cub whose jaw became crooked in an accident shortly after birth, has recovered since receiving the world’s first functional orthodontic treatment for jaw asymmetry in his species. The team behind the procedure was from the West China Hospital of Stomatology at Sichuan University.
治療之後的「北俠」
4年前，成都大熊貓繁育研究基地的雄性大熊貓幼崽「北俠」出生后不久，因母獸育幼經驗不足，叼取用力不當，造成其左前肢嚴重損傷，頜骨也受到影響。
Four years ago, the male cub at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding was accidentally injured by his inexperienced mother. She used too much force to pick him up with her mouth, damaging his left forelimb and injuring his jaw.
「北俠」接受截肢手術
由於左前肢出現不可逆的缺血性壞死，「北俠」出生不到24小時就接受了截肢手術。命雖然保住了，但它的下頜卻隨著成長逐漸向左偏斜，導致無法正常吮吸。
The forelimb suffered irreversible ischemic necrosis, and the cub had to undergo amputation within 24 hours of birth. His life was saved, but his lower jaw gradually drifted to the left as he grew, making it hard for him to suckle properly.
隨著生長發育，「北俠」下頜偏斜逐漸加重
三個月時，下頜向左偏斜愈發明顯，再不矯正，生長發育都要出問題。面對這個棘手的難題，成都熊貓基地獸醫團隊第一時間想到了華西口腔——國內口腔醫學頂尖醫療機構，而且它就在成都！
By three months old, the asymmetry had become so pronounced that veterinarians feared it could hinder his growth if not corrected in time. Facing this tricky problem, the base’s veterinary team turned to Chengdu’s West China Hospital of Stomatology, one of China’s top dental institutions.
全程參与診療的「主刀」醫生之一、華西口腔醫院正畸科主任醫師龍虎說，他接到這個任務時，相當興奮，畢竟這是國寶啊！
不過當他了解到「北俠」的病情之後，卻稍有些緊張起來。他說，「技術本身不是最難的部分，真正難的是——人類醫生幾乎不了解熊貓下頜是怎麼發育的，可參考的研究也非常有限。」而且，動物可沒法像人類患者那樣溝通、配合治療。
Long Hu, one of the lead surgeons, said he was quite excited when he received the task.
But after learning more about Bei Xia’s condition, Long became a little nervous. “The technique wasn’t the hard part,” he said. “The real challenge was that human doctors knew almost nothing about how a panda’s jaw develops, and there was very limited research available for reference.” Unlike human patients, animals also cannot communicate or cooperate during treatment.
熊貓基地獸醫團隊向華西口腔醫院正畸科專家科普了動物口腔相關知識，雙方進行多次會診和討論，確定對「北俠」實施矯形治療。
Veterinarians from the panda base briefed the orthodontic team on animal oral anatomy, and the two sides held several rounds of consultations before settling on an orthodontic treatment plan.
「北俠」接受治療中
2023年初，矯形操作在熊貓基地進行，從晚上9點一直忙到凌晨1點。
The procedure took place at the panda base in early 2023, from 9 pm to 1 am.
麻醉醫生負責保證熊貓氣道通暢、鎮靜穩定，正畸醫生則把3D列印的定製矯治器粘到熊貓牙齒上，然後套上三根橡皮圈進行彈性牽引。
Anesthesiologists worked to maintain a clear airway and stable sedation, while orthodontists bonded 3D-printed appliances to the cub’s teeth. Elastic traction was then applied using three rubber bands.
「北俠」接受治療中
矯形操作完成後的6個月里，由飼養員負責給「北俠」堅持佩戴橡皮圈，每24小時更換一次。6個月後，下頜偏斜基本得到矯正，吮吸、咬合、吞咽功能恢復正常。用於固定矯治器的牙齒也沒有出現任何鬆動。
Over the following six months, keepers replaced the rubber bands every 24 hours. The deviation was almost completely corrected, and the cub was able to suck, bite, and swallow like normal. The teeth used as anchors showed no signs of loosening after the appliances were removed.
「北俠」接受治療之後
如今，「北俠」已經四歲了，生活在成都大熊貓繁育研究基地都江堰野放繁育研究中心（熊貓谷），身體倍兒棒，吃嘛嘛香。
Bei Xia now lives at Panda Valley, a branch of the panda base in Dujiangyan, Sichuan province. The base said he is in good health and has a good appetite.
